Earning a scholarship during Saturday’s visit to the university, Ruckert now has an offers list that includes PSU in addition to Boston College, UConn, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.

And he didn’t have to wait long to receive the news.

“It was actually right in the beginning” of the visit, he said about the timing of the scholarship offer. “I got in and ate my food and then got called into this room and we had a great conversation with my family about football, about Penn State itself and then (James Franklin) let me know I had an offer to play football at Penn State. It was a great experience.”

Ruckert had been in contact with members of the coaching staff for the past few weeks. Heading into Saturday’s visit, he had an inkling that PSU might offer but wasn’t positive. He had been holding out hope, so when he learned of the offer Saturday it was a moment he embraced.

“I kind of had a clue, but it was still a very humbling thing to experience,” he said “But the visit was amazing. The facilities and stadium are second to none, and I really got along well with and was impressed with the coaching staff. And the campus was very nice.”

At 6-foot-6 and 215-pounds, Ruckert lines up a lot at wide receiver for Lindenhurst Senior, but he confirmed that Penn State’s offer was to play tight end.

As a sophomore he caught 60 passes for a total of 852 yards and seven touchdowns.
