Penn State picked another Class of 2017 commitment late Thursday evening in Meadville, Pa., running back Journey Brown.

While his commitment may feel like a total surprise, Brown has been on the staff's radar since camping with them this summer. He then visited twice this season, most recently for the game against Michigan State.

Brown finished an excellent career with his best season in 2016, rushing for 2,791 yards and scoring 45 touchdowns. For his career, he totaled an eye-catching 7,027 yards, scoring 103 total rushing touchdowns.

In addition to setting a Pennsylvania state record for the most rushing yards in one game - he totaled 722 yards and 10 touchdowns in a 107-90 win over DuBois as a junior - Brown is also the PIAA Class AAA 100 meter champion. He ran the sprint in 10.73 seconds last May, but has been clocked at 10.62 seconds. He also runs a 4.44 second 40-yard dash and has a 38-inch vertical leap. Aside from football and track, he also plays basketball in the winter

With Brown now on board, Penn State has 19 commitments in the Class of 2017 and it’s believed that PSU has just one or two scholarships remaining. Maryland defensive back Tariq Castro-Fields could be the next prospect to monitor, as he’s set to take an official visit to Penn State this upcoming weekend. He’ll then decide Jan. 23.

Blue White Illustrated will have much more on Brown and his commitment in the near future.
