Enis Previews First Visit to Happy Valley

Penn State is set to host another legacy prospect next weekend in Class of 2018 wide receiver Solomon Enis.

A four-star prospect from Phoenix, Enis is the son of former Nittany Lion running back Curtis Enis. Since picking up an offer from James Franklin back in February, he said he’s built a strong relationship with both the head coach and wide receiver coach Josh Gattis.

“It’s been mainly Coach Gattis. He’s the one I’ve been talking to the most,” said Enis. “We’ve been talking almost everyday. We talk about a little bit of everything, whether it be our lives or football or how I’m doing in track. He’s been telling me a lot of about how I’m a great fit for Penn State, not just for football, but academically, too. You can tell he’s a good guy and player’s coach.

“I’ve also been able to talk to Coach Franklin some. He’s been telling me that everyone is really grinding right now and that everything is looking good during spring ball. It’s been nice getting to know him, too.”

Despite his father’s ties to the university, Solomon’s trip for the Blue-White Game will be his first time in State College. He and his father are planning to arrive in State College Friday afternoon. They’ll then stick around until Sunday evening, giving Enis an opportunity to not only check out the atmosphere inside Beaver Stadium, but also enough time to tour facilities, meet with the coaching staff and see some of the town.

One of things he’s looking forward to the most is actually meeting Franklin and Gattis for the first time. To this point, they’ve only been able to talk over the phone, but he said that both seem to fit the coaching style that he’s looking for.

“They both seem like pretty cool guys, but at the same time, they’re also going to get on you and coach you when it’s time to go,” Enis said. “That’s what I like. I like the kind of coach that you can come to and talk to and also have fun. But also, when it’s time to go, it’s time to go. That’s what I like.”

So far, Enis has earned 13 total scholarship offers, most of which are from Pac-12 programs: Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Oregon, UCLA, USC, Utah and Washington State. Other programs include Duke, Georgia, Kentucky and Vanderbilt, in addition to the Nittany Lions.

Back in February, Enis was able to visit both Duke and USC. He’s also taken multiple visits to Arizona State. More visits are expected to multiple schools this summer. Once he feels comfortable with his options, Enis said that he’ll likely narrow his list.

“I’ll probably narrow everything down and release my top schools some time in the summer, but it depends on how all my visits go, plus any new offers, things like that. But it should be coming up in the next few months.”

Academically, Enis is leaning towards majoring in marketing, but with a full year of high school remaining, he still hasn’t decided on exactly what he wants to pursue. However, he does know that academics will play a major role in his decision. He also said that Penn State’s distance from home - State College is more than 2,000 miles from Phoenix - won’t have a major impact when he decides.

“The distance isn’t going to really impact me. I just want to find a place where I can compete and play, but also get a great education.

“It’s great that my dad also has a lot of history at Penn State. I think that’s really cool, plus their coaches seem really cool. The program is definitely on the rise right now. I think Penn State is a good opportunity for me. I’m excited to check it all out myself.”

During his junior season, Enis racked up 1,144 yards receiving on just 64 receptions, averaging just under 18 yards per catch. He was also North Canyon’s second leading rusher, totaling 318 yards. He scored 14 total touchdowns. Enis also runs the 200 meter and does the long jump on his school’s track and field team. He’s averaging 22.3 seconds in the 200 meter and 21 feet, 4 inches in the long jump so far this season.
