Penn State hosted a few of its Class of 2018 commits for an official visit this past weekend, one of which was Sachse, Texas, native Isaiah Humphries.

A three-star prospect, Humphries is the son of former Nittany Lion defensive back Leonard Humphries. Since committing to the Lions back on Jan. 1, the 5-foot-11, 188 pound safety prospect has returned to State College on multiple occasions to learn even more about his future school, but there was one thing he still hadn’t seen: a whiteout game inside Beaver Stadium. That all changed this past weekend.

“I mean, it was incredible. It was crazy,” Humphries said. “You go to a lot of places and you’ll see great support, but you’ll still have a lot of people that are still sitting and just watching the game. Literally everyone was involved Saturday night.

“I was jumping out of my seat and everyone else was jumping out of their seats. Even my sister, who’s usually on her phone most of the time, was jumping around and cheering for the team. I really knew when I looked over and saw my sister engaged the entire time that this was something special.”

In addition to Humphries, Penn State also hosted two of his future teammates, CBs Trent Gordon, Manvel, Texas, and Jordan Miner, Wesley Chapel, Fla., for their official visits this past weekend. Humphries said that it was good for both the players and their families to spend the weekend together.

“It was great to see all of the committed guys that were up there,” he said. “I’ve known Trent [Gordon] and his family from before. Our families have become good friends, but to see everyone else was a lot of fun. [Trent and I] spent a lot of time with Jordan [Miner] since he was also on his official visit. What was really cool is that all of our families got to hang out more and get to know each other all weekend.

“But Jordan is a real cool guy. I could tell that he’s the kind of guy that works hard, takes care of business, but he’s also down to have fun, which is great. Those are the kind of guys that I want to be around. With him being a (defensive back), like me and Trent, we spent a lot of time getting to know each other more. I can tell that those two guys are always going to push me and be good teammates, which is what I need.”

Following Saturday night’s win against Michigan, Humphries said that he and the other official visitors spent basically all of Sunday with the coaching staff. One of the day’s highlights was a brunch at James Franklin’s house.

“We actually stayed in town until Monday, so I spent basically the entire day on campus Sunday,” said Humphries. “I’d say the main thing from Sunday was the brunch we had over at Coach Franklin’s house. First off, the food was amazing. We had everything, from filet mignon to the college diner stickies. All of it was amazing. They treated us great.

“The food was one thing, but really, it was mainly just about all of us coming together like a family. Trent and Jordan’s families were all there, so it was a good opportunity for all of us to relax and spend time together. We all have similar personalities, so that was the best part.”

Now that he’s used his official visit to Penn State, Humphries could still return in December with the rest of the committed players if his family pays for the trip. However, since he’s planning to enroll in January, his mother may have other plans.

“We’ll see,” Humphries said, when asked if he plans to join the other committed players when they visit, Dec. 8-10. “I’m enrolling at Penn State around January 5th, so I know my mom is going to want me to stay home as much as possible during those final weeks. I would also like to spend some time with my friends at home before I get up there, but at the same time, it would also be a lot of fun to spend another weekend up there with all my future teammates. So, I need to think about it more. I’m not sure, as of now.”

Through seven games this season, Humphries has led Sachse to an undefeated record. He’s recorded 32 tackles for the Mustangs, including five for a loss of yards. Humphries also has four interceptions and four pass deflections.
