Signed: Keaton Ellis

WHAT HE DID: The first verbal commitment of Penn State’s Class of 2019, Ellis finished the 2018 season with 1,151 yards of offense. Playing cornerback on defense, which is where he’ll play in college, he added 51 tackles, including two for a loss of yards, nine pass deflections, four interceptions and three fumble recoveries. He totaled 19 touchdowns on the season, 17 of which were on offense. The other two came via a fumble recovery and a kick return.

WHAT HE WON: After helping State High to a 12-2 season and a spot in the PIAA quarterfinals, Ellis saw his rankings boost. He went from a three-star prospect to four stars and climbed to the No. 26 cornerback in the country. He’s now considered the No. 3 overall prospect in Pennsylvania. In 2018, Ellis was a first-team selection at cornerback by USA Today and the Pennsylvania Football Writers Association. He was also a finalist for the Mr. PA Football Award.

WHERE HE VISITED: Ellis earned two early scholarship offers from Buffalo and Syracuse in the beginning of June 2017. He then camped at Penn State later that month and the staff offered the same day. Ellis made the short trip to campus a few times that summer before verbally committing to the Nittany Lions in September 2017.

QUOTABLE: "Penn State checked all the boxes for me. The fact that my family is so close was huge for me. Penn State is a great school academically, as well. The family atmosphere was big, too.”
