TE Brett Seither recaps in-home visit with Tyler Bowen

Nittany Lion assistant coach Tyler Bowen was in Clearwater, Fla., Wednesday for an in-home visit with tight end Brett Seither and his family.

Since the end of his senior season, Seither has been on a roll, adding offers from Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, Rutgers, Syracuse and TCU. Penn State was the most recent school to join that list, but the 6-foot-5, 230 pound three-star was also already familiar with Bowen, as he said the two began speaking with each other last spring.

“He’s a young coach, which great. I feel like I can really bond with him,” Seither said, when asked about Wednesday’s visit. “It’s easy to talk with him. I feel like we can relate on a lot of things. But also, at the end of the day, he’s there to be your coach and work you hard. But I like his youth. I feel like that’s a plus.

“Penn State is a top program, too. Honestly, they’re top five, in my eyes, nationally. I think they’ll be competing in the playoffs very soon. But also, after sitting down with him and going over film and some things, their offense is probably the most friendly offense in the country at using the tight end.”

As of now, many believe that TCU holds the edge, as Seither went to Fort Worth back in November and has built a very strong relationship with Gary Patterson and his staff. In fact, he and his family had dinner with a member of TCU’s staff Thursday evening.

Georgia and Georgia Tech are also very much in the mix, as Seither and his family saw Tech’s campus in Atlanta this past weekend and will now head to Athens Friday afternoon. He also took an official visit to Michigan State back in June. That leaves Seither with just one remaining official visit, which will likely come down to Alabama, who met with his family Sunday evening, or Penn State.

“I’m still trying to figure it all out,” said Seither. “Florida is another school that’s come into the picture. It sounds like they’re about to offer me. Coach [Dan] Mullen actually tried to setup an in-home visit with me last night. But, after talking to Coach Bowen, I’m thinking about taking an official visit to either Penn State or Alabama and then taking an unofficial visit to whichever school I can’t see officially. I just have to figure out how that works with Florida, too, because I’m interested in checking out Florida.

“So, I have a lot to figure out still, but I do have serious interest in checking out Penn State.”

In 2018, Seither totaled 42 receptions for 630 yards and six touchdowns. Clearwater Central went 12-1, advancing to the FHSAA Class 3A semifinals before being knocked out by John Dunmore and Chaminade-Madonna.
