Top expert has Penn State making a deep run in the NCAA Tournament
One of the country's top NCAA / March Madness experts - Andy Katz is high on Penn State as the Nittany Lions make their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2011 on Thursday.
In his recently released bracket for this yea'rs tournament, Katz has the Nittany Lions not only getting past their tough first round matchup against Texas A&M but also has the Nittany Lions defeating Texas and Iowa State en route an Elite Eight appearence.
He has the Nittany Lions' deep run ending in the Elite Eight with a loss to the Indiana Hoosiers, a team the Nittany Lions have already beat twice this season.
The Nittany Lions are hot entering the NCAA Tournament, winners of eight of their last 10 including winning three games in Chicago over Illinois, Northwestern, and Indiana as part of the Big Ten Tournament. Micah Shrewsberry's program would eventually fall in the Big Ten Tournament championship game to Purdue by a final score of 67-65. After being down 17 with under six minutes to go, the Nittany Lions would go on a 22-7 run to close the game, just coming up short of finishing what would've been a remarkable comeback.
The Nittany Lions first round matchup is set for a 9:40 p.m. tip off on Thursday evening in Des Moines, Iowa as part of the Midwest region. Their opening opponent, the Texas A&M Aggies enter the tournament with a 25-9 record including 15-3 in conference play which allowed them to tie for first in the SEC during the regular season. In the SEC Tournament, they would open their run with wins over Arkansas and Vanderbilt before evnetually losing to the NCAA Tournament's No.1 overall seed, the Alabama Crimson Tide.
