Running back Saquon Barkley has impressed scouts all week at the NFL Combine. Friday, he got to do it again, only this time, it was on the field.

After posting 29 reps of 225 pounds during the bench press Thursday, the former Nittany Lion started Friday with an impressive 41-inch vertical, better than any other running back. According to Josh Norris of Rotoworld.com, that tied Barkley for the eighth-best vertical posted by a running back since 2006. The historical average is 35 inches.

In the 40-yard dash, Barkley's first attempt was clocked at 4.41 seconds, unofficially. Despite a slight stumble on his second attempt, he put in another excellent time, 4.42 seconds, unofficially. It was later announced that his official time was 4.40 flat.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock was impressed with Barkley's performance.

"[Barkley] running 4.4 at 233 pounds, to me, is way more impressive than John Ross' 4.22," Mayock said, referring to last year's record-setting time at the NFL Combine.

Barkley could've called it quits right then and would've been fine, but he participated in every on the field workout. Scouts drooled over his technique, especially in the passing game, as he totaled about a half-dozen routes and didn't record a single drop.

"He was phenomenal in the testing portion and I thought the workout was even better than he tested," said NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah.

He added, "When you have someone listed as your top player here in the draft, you get a little bit nervous and want it to be confirmed with what you saw. [Barkley] confirmed everything today."

A three-year starter for the Lions, Barkley finished his career as Penn State's all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (43) and total touchdowns (53). He surpassed another elite Nittany Lion tailback in Lydell Mitchell. Barkley also capped his career as Penn State's all-time leader in all-purpose yards with 5,538, surpassing Larry Johnson's 5,045.

Barkley also holds the school record for most consecutive games with a touchdown scored (15). He's also just the fourth player in the history of the Big Ten, first at Penn State, to gain 3,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in his career.
