California native and four-star linebacker Jack Lamb picked up a big offer from Penn State Friday evening. Learn more about his first visit to Happy Valley, plus what to expect moving forward.
Penn State became the latest program to verbally offer four-star linebacker Jack Lamb.
Despite the fact that he and his family live in Temecula, Cali. - which is more than 2,500 miles away from State College - Lamb grew up in a Nittany Lion household, as both of his parents graduated from Penn State. Because of that, he made it clear in the weeks leading up to the visit that an offer from head coach James Franklin would be a big deal. But even Lamb and his family weren't expecting his first unofficial visit to go as smooth as it did.
“Today was a really special day for me,” Lamb said. “I got the offer to the school that both my parents graduated from. It’s really been an amazing experience. I've grown up being taught to cheer for Penn State, so I've been a fan for awhile.
“But then, when I visited, I really liked all the great people I got to speak with, especially Coach Franklin, who has an amazing personality and a great approach to coaching his players.”
Lamb was also able to learn more about Penn State’s defense, as well as its facilities and fans.
“Me and Coach Pry got to talk about how he sees me playing the SAM position and how I'd fit in there. As far as the facilities and campus, it was super welcoming and I got to (meet) a couple players walking around. They were all nice to me. Also, with Penn State’s fan base, my Twitter is already going crazy.”
Now up to 17 verbal scholarship offers, Lamb took unofficial visits to Stanford, California, Washington and Oregon earlier this week. He’s also been able to see UCLA and USC in recent months.
Moving forward, Lamb continues to stress that he’s in no rush to make a decision, but he did add that Penn State is “definitely a school I’m considering.” He'll finish his visit with Franklin and his assistants Saturday morning, as he and his family will take in a spring practice before flying home.
Last season, Lamb totaled 117 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, four sacks, two fumble recoveries and one interception. He’s currently ranked No. 13 overall at inside linebacker and No. 31 in California for the Class of 2018.
