At the university's Jan. 15 Board of Trustees meeting, the Committee on Finance, Business and Capital Planning recommended Populous Kansas City to helm the construction of the major renovations. Final approval by the full board will be decided upon at Friday's meeting.
While structurally the building would not alter, proposed renovations include revamping of the team locker room and recruiting lounge while expanding both, an equipment room upgrade to include a new fitting room, increased office space, improved branding and graphics throughout the building, renovations to the hydrotherapy and weight rooms, and multiple technological systems upgrades including "integration of video, sound and lighting in various areas, and an immersive digital experience" throughout the building, according to a university release.
The target date for construction to be completed would be June 2016, with a tentative start date for December 2015.
Following the release of a concept design and feasibility study provided by the Kansas City firm Crawford Architects, the stated goals of the major project are as follows:
"Through select renovations, improvements and expansions, maintain and enhance the continued viability of the Lasch Football Operations Building and Holuba Hall to support Penn State's mission as a premier institution and athletics program."
Renderings from the project can be found here.
Additionally, as noted in the university release accompanying the news, fundraising efforts continue as the project is expected to be "completely financed through private gifts."
