The seventh stop of 12 this year, Penn State will welcome what is annually a showcase of the best high school football talent throughout the country. In this, the tenth year of NIKE Football Camps, there will be slight changes with no testing of 40-yard dash, bench press, etc., but the drills and evaluation will remain the same.
At the NIKE Camp, some of the best high school football players around the country will be taught position-specific drills by some of the most notable pro football players and specialists in the country.
Starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, players who - A) were recommended by their coaches as a high level recruit B) sent in a 5 minute video highlight tape to be evaluated or C) tested well at a NIKE Combine - will begin to sign in.
They'll get a free t-shirt, have a snapshot taken, and then it's off to work.
First, the entire group will participate in a 'dynamic warmup' with SPARQ trainers. The trainers will help each player get through specifically designed drilles to help out with speed, athletic ability and explosiveness.
Essentially, it's an opportunity for players to learn new techniques and secrets that are designed to help them reach the NFL.
Next, the group will split into different parts to participate in position specific drills.
The position groups are separated by quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers/tight ends, offensive and defensive linemen, linebackers and defensive backs.
Finally, the camp concludes with one-on-one passing and non-contact line drills.
Now, don't be fooled, beyond just the benefits for the players on an individual basis, this is also a type of scouting opportunity for college coaches.
The information about the camp from StudentSportsFootball.com detailed that "The NIKE Football Training Camps provide the best opportunity for national exposure that a camp can offer."
Mainly, this is because college coaches come from all over the country to evaluate players as they participate in the drills. Of course, Blue White Illustrated, along with national recruiting analysts from Rivals.com will be on hand, giving even more national expoure to the participants.
