Penn State added another four-star prospect to its Class of 2017 in wide receiver Kahlee Hamler.

Originally from Orchard Lake, Mich., Hamler transferred to IMG Academy back in the summer. He then suffered a torn anterior-cruciate ligament in the first game of the season, but that didn’t impact the Nittany Lions' pursuit, as Hamler was one of the staff’s top overall receiver targets in this year’s class.

Dating back to his junior season, Hamler camped at Penn State and attended a junior day in February. He then took an official visit for the game against Temple in September. That was followed by official visits to Michigan State (Sept. 24-25) and Oregon (Oct. 29-30).

Back in April, while still attending St. Mary’s outside of Detroit, Hamler earned top performer honors at the Rivals/Under Armour Camp in Columbus, Ohio.

“Even with a host of big-name wide receivers in attendance, most defensive backs knew the toughest cover at the event would be Hamler,” said Rivals national analyst Josh Helmholdt. “Just 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, Hamler excels in a camp setting due to his explosive speed. His ability to change direction without seemingly decreasing his speed is almost impossible for defensive backs to counter. It was going to take a remarkable performance to top the wide receiver talent in attendance, and Hamler was up to the challenge, again.”

In addition to the three schools he officially visited, Hamler held offers from many of the nation’s top programs, including Arkansas, Louisville, Michigan, Nebraska, Pitt, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin. He finished as the nation’s 44th-ranked wide receiver in the Class of 2017.

Blue White Illustrated will have much more on Hamler’s commitment in the coming days.
