Penn State is hosting one of its top overall targets for an unofficial visit Wednesday in defensive lineman Tyreke Smith.
Back in April, the four-star from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, narrowed his list to 12 schools: Alabama, Cincinnati, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Texas, UCLA and USC. Since then, he's taken multiple visits to the school that most believe currently leads, Ohio State, but now the Nittany Lions are about to get a chance to make their case before he narrows his list further later this summer.
Over the past year, Smith has taken a handful of visits to State College. Last season, he was in attendance for the upset over Ohio State. He also returned in December to watch the team prep for its showdown with USC in the Rose Bowl, but his most recent visit was in March, when he checked out spring practice. Overall, this will be be Smith's fifth unofficial visit to Penn State.
Earlier this month, Smith took home MVP honors for defensive lineman at the Rivals100 Challenge. During that event, Smith said that "The relationships I have there and the education,"are two major reasons why he's considering the Nittany Lions.
He added, "Education is a big part of my decision. It's just a place where the atmosphere keeps pulling me back."
Smith visited Ohio State just a few days ago and is now set to visit UCLA and USC in July. Notre Dame and Texas are two other schools that could earn a visit from Smith before preseason begins in August.
Smith is expected to be on campus until Thursday afternoon.
