As the Penn State men's basketball team prepares to take on Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals this afternoon, it has been reported that head coach Micah Shrewsberry is a leading candidate elsewhere.

According to Jeff Goodman of Stadium, Shrewsberry has emerged as "one of the leading candidates for the Georgetown opening". The Hoyas recently fired head coach Patrick Ewing after six seasons in the nation's capital.

The report isn't all that shocking as the second-year head coach was expected to be a popular name in this coaching carousel due to his success thus far with the Nittany Lions. With Penn State's recent run, winning seven of eight, and going from an NCAA Tournament longshot to firmly in The Big Dance has only raised the 46-year-old's profile over the last few weeks.

Some college basketball experts also believe Shrewsberry could be connected to the Notre Dame opening as well which makes sense due to his deep connections to Indiana. During his time as an assistant coach or head coach, Shrewsberry has spent most of his career in Indiana with stops at Wabash, DePauw, IU South Bend, Butler, and Purdue.

While it remains to be seen where Shrewsberry will be coaching next season, the one thing for certain is that the Indiana native will be in for a big payday this upcoming off-season. In just his second season with the program, Shrewsberry has turned the Nittany Lions into an NCAA Tournament team and has the Nittany Lions on the brink of a potential Big Ten Tournament championship game appearance. The Nittany Lions recruiting has also taken a major step forward under Shrewsberry in his short time in Happy Valley.

Athletic director Pat Kraft has done a strong job in his first year with the university, helping meet many of the football program and other program's needs, now he'll be in for his biggest test yet, finding a way to retain Shrewsberry for the 2023-24 season and beyond.
