WHAT HE DID: As a junior, George caught 29 passes for 498 yards and 11 touchdowns. This past fall, he enjoyed an even bigger senior season, catching 61 passes for 888 yards and 11 scores. George averaged 14.7 yards per catch and added 141 yards and two touchdowns on rushing attempts, helping the Clippers finish 8-5. On defense, George had 40 tackles and five interceptions from his free safety spot.
WHAT HE WON: George earned all-county honors from 2015 to 2017 and all-met honors the past two seasons. He was also name Offensive Player of the Year for Prince George's County as a senior. A four-star prospect, George is a member of the Rivals250, checking in at No. 228. He is considered the No. 6 overall prospect in Maryland and No. 4o at wide receiver nationally.
WHERE HE VISITED: George received offers from schools throughout the Northeast and Midwest, including eight offers from Big Ten programs. Among the schools at the top of his list were Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, North Carolina, N.C. State, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin. He received his offer from Penn State last December and visited campus in February. He returned last July for the Lasch Bash and announced his decision the following day. George had been close with Joe Moorhead and Charles Huff, but their exit in early December for Mississippi State didn’t change his mind. “Honestly, a lot of us [recruits] feel like this is a great move for Coach Moorhead,” George said. “A lot of the guys have said that they’re happy for him. Obviously, we would have loved to have been coached by him, but we knew that he could potentially earn an opportunity like this at some point.”
QUOTABLE: George to The Washington Post: “I hate being on the sideline. It feels like I’m not getting anything done.”
PHIL’S TAKE: George is a physical wide receiver that reminds me of Chris Godwin coming out of high school. To go along with his physical style of play, he ran the 40 in 4.6 seconds at multiple camps this past summer. George runs very precise routes and does a superb job of catching the football with his hands. In fact, among the group of receivers that Penn State will sign this year, he may have the best hands of the bunch. George also uses his body well to ward off defenders and catch the ball at the high point of its arc. I expect him to play at one of the two outside wide receiver positions.
