Good afternoon everyone, we're live from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta as No.10 Penn State takes on No. 11 Ole Miss in the 2023 Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl. We'll provide drive-by-drive recaps below as the Nittany Lions look to become the first program in college football history to win all six New Year's Six Bowl games.
PREGAME: Penn State is captained by TE Theo Johnson, DE Adisa Isaac, OL Caedan Wallace, and LB Dominic DeLuca today. Ole Miss wins the toss and elects to receive.
Q1 15:00 (OLE MISS BALL) : The opening kickoff by Penn State's Gabriel Nwosu is a touchback and Ole Miss will start at their own 25-yard line.
Q1 14:24 (OLE MISS BALL) : Penn State forces an Ole Miss three-and-out. It appeared Cam Miller may have had an interception on third down but after review its ruled incomplete.
Q1 9:17 (PENN STATE BALL) After looking to be pinned deep in their own territory with a 2nd and 20, Nicholas Singleton picks up 18 yards to turn it into a 3rd and 2 before picking up the first down. The Nittany Lions would drive into Ole Miss territory before the Rebels force the Nittany Lions to settle for a field goal. Penn State 3 - Ole Miss 0
Q1 9:17 (OLE MISS BALL) Gabriel Nwosu's second kickoff of the day is a touchback once again. Ole Miss to start at their 25-yard line.
Q1 7:16 (OLE MISS BALL): After appearing to have given up a touchdown, an offsides call gives Penn State a second opportunity to stop Ole Miss on third down and they do, forcing a field goal. Penn State 3 - Ole Miss 3.
Q1 7:13 (PENN STATE BALL): Nicholas Singleton opts to return a kickoff and pays the price as an Ole Miss defender cuts him down at Penn State's 11-yard line.
Q1 4:10 (PENN STATE BALL): Nittany Lions are able to move the ball up but can't get to midfield as Ole Miss forces a punt. Looked like Omari Evans didn't run his route completely on third down, Allar was quite upset with him after the play.
Q1 3:30 (OLE MISS BALL): It appeared Penn State may have gotten a turnover within Abdul Carter strip sack but it was ruled an incomplete pass afterwards. The Nittany Lions allowed Ole Miss to get near midfield one player later.
Q1 0:30 (OLE MISS BALL): The Rebels take a 10-3 lead after Jaxson Dart finds Caden Prieskorn for a 6-yard touchdown. Really nice drive by the Rebels, Penn State had a few opportunities to get off the field but never found the ability to do so. Secondary getting tested early today as they rotate some young players in, Zion Tracy was in on that last drive.
Q1 0:00 (PENN STATE BALL): At the end to the first quarter, Drew Allar forces a pass to Tyler Warren that is tipped before being caught one hand by Warren. Warren runs it all the way to the Ole Miss five yard line.
SECOND QUARTER
Q2 (14:15) PENN STATE BALL : Looking to the game, Penn State goes for it on fourth and two from the Ole Miss two yard line. Allar finds Theo Johnson on a bootleg roll out for the touchdown. Penn State 10 - Ole Miss 10
Q2 (13:20) OLE MISS BALL : Ole Miss starts their drive at their own 21 yard line after a small return. Penn State LB Kobe King banged up on the Rebels second play of the drive. He walked off the field under his own power and went into the medical tent.
Q2 (10:33) OLE MISS BALl: Ole Miss is having a ton of success through the air, freshman DB Zion Tracy getting picked on quite a bit in this game but the Nittany Lions have recovered well on two of three drives and forced field goals including a 45-yard field goal on this latest drive. Ole Miss 13 - Penn State 10
Q2 (10:33) PENN STATE BALL: Penn State starts at their own 25 yard line after a touchback.
Q2 (9:01) PENN STATE BALL: Drew Allar with pressure in his face from Jared Ivey throws one up for Omari Evans and its intercepted by Ole Miss at their own 17-yard line. Allar's second interception of the year.
Q2 (5:00) OLE MISS BALL: Jaxson Dart finds a wide open Caden Preiskorn for a 36-yard touchdown, Ole Miss takes a 20-10 lead.
Q2 (2:45) PENN STATE BALL: Talk about an answer.
Penn State answers the Ole Miss touchdown as Beau Pribula finds an open Nicholas Singleton who beats multiple Ole Miss defenders into the endzone for a 48-yard touchdown. The Nittany Lions have life before halftime. Ole Miss 20 - Penn State 17.
Q2 (1:27) OLE MISS BALL: After review, Tre Harris did not complete a tremendous catch on third down and Ole Miss is forced to punt with 1:34 left on the clock in the first half. Penn State takes over at their own 16
Q2 (0:35) PENN STATE BALL: It's a quick drive for the Nittany Lions who are forced to punt and give the ball back to Rebels with just over 30 seconds remaining.
Q2 (0:00): Ole Miss attempts a hook-and-lateral to end the first half but throws it out of bounds. Rebels take a 20-17 lead into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
Q3 (15:00): Penn State takes over at their own 25 after a touch back. Ole Miss forces a quick three and out but Riley Thompson is able to flip the field and punts the ball to Ole Miss's 25-yard line.
Q3 (10:48): Ole Miss moves the ball into Penn State territory but the Nittany Lions are able to force a field goal attempt. The 52-yard attempt from Ole Miss is good, extending the Rebels lead to 23-17.
Q3 (4:10) OLE MISS BALL: Jaxson Dart hits a wide-open Quidshon Judkins for a 14-yard touchdown reception. The two-point attempt is good, 31-17 Ole Miss leads.
END OF THIRD QUARTER: Ole Miss 31 - Penn State 17 ... Rebels with 482 yards of total offense to 293 yards of total of offense for Penn State.
FOURTH QUARTER
Q4 10:55 - PENN STATE BALL: After driving into Ole Miss territory, the Nittany Lions attempt a trick play with Beau Pribula and Drew Allar. Instead, the backwards pass sails out of bounds and Penn State loses 12 yards. Finding themselves with a 4th and 17, James Franklin opts to kick the field goal which ends up being blocked. Ole Miss ball on Penn State's 35.
Q4 (6:29) OLE MISS BALL: Jaxson Dart with a two-yard run makes it a 38-17 touchdown following the extra point.
Q4 (4:15) PENN STATE BALL: Penn State cuts the Ole Miss lead to 38-25 following a 14-yard touchdown pass from Drew Allar to Harrison Wallace and a successful two-point try. The ensuing on-side kick attempt is recovered by Ole Miss.
Q4 (1:28) OLE MISS BALL: After recovering the onside kick, Ole Miss punts and gives Penn State the ball back with just under 90 seconds remaining.
Q4 (0:00): OLE MISS WINS THE PEACH BOWL 38-25.
