Counting down Penn State's top 10 remaining prospects in the Class of 2022

Following a torrid run on the recruiting trail, Penn State's Class of 2022 may be full within a matter of weeks.

Currently, we project the Nittany Lions to hold 23 or 24 commitments before the start of August (they’re at 20 on July 21), and that'll still leave a handful of very good players who would still like to be part of this class.

Because of that, 26 or possibly 27 players in the Class of 2022 cannot be ruled out.

So, how would we rank Penn State's top 10 remaining prospects in the Class of 2022?

Ryan Snyder caught up with sources to try and piece the puzzle together.

10) DT Alex VanSumeren

- The only reason Alex VanSumeren is 10th on this list is because of his position. With Zane Durant and Kaleb Artis already committed, Penn State doesn’t need another defensive tackle. However, VanSumeren was arguably their top target at the position, although I look at him and Artis as basically 1A and 1B. Durant also moved up the board quite a bit after his visit, so all three are more even then not. If VanSumeren wanted to commit to Penn State in the very near future, the staff could probably squeeze him in. Right now, many believe Michigan State is the team to beat, but there seems to be a quiet confidence from Penn State's side that it has a real chance here. He took an official visit last month.

9) LB Jaishawn Barham

The next two prospects both play at St. Frances in Baltimore, which hasn't been good to Penn State over the years. On top of that, Jaishawn Barham isn't one to open up much about his recruitment. That’s not just with the media, but communication with coaches can also be sporadic at times. Because of that, he's a difficult player to read. At one point, it was believed that Maryland and Penn State were the two schools here. That may still be the case, although South Carolina is pushing hard, too. He's a total wildcard in my eyes.

8) OL Andre Roye

- Between offensive linemen Andre Roye and Aamil Wagner, Roye seems to be a more realistic add as of late-July. He took official visits to Arizona State and Maryland and is likely down to the Terps and Nittany Lions, although he’s another player who doesn’t talk much, so exactly where he leans is tough to read. I personally think Penn State can pass on adding another offensive lineman if numbers get tight, but Phil Trautwein clearly wants to improve the talent in his room.
