2020 OL Michael Carmody's sixth visit to Penn State won't be his last

Even on his sixth visit to Penn State, offensive lineman Michael Carmody is still finding new things to be excited about.

On Saturday's Junior Day, the 6-foot-6 offensive tackle got a chance to learn more about the academic side of Penn State's football program. He and the other recruits were given a tour of the Morgan Academic Center, and it left a mark on Carmody.

"The first few visits I didn’t spend as much time with academics as I did today, and getting to talk to them and hear how the players' days are scheduled really stood out to me," Carmody said.

But even as Carmody mulls over his options for the future, one aspect of Penn State brought out the kid in him.

"No matter how many times I walk into Beaver Stadium, it just mesmerizes me every time," Carmody said. "The snow all over the field made me want to go get all my friends to play some backyard snow football."

Carmody might just have the opportunity to gather teammates to play at Beaver Stadium, because he also said James Franklin spent a lot of time encouraging him to help recruit other members of the Class of 2020.

He also met with line coach and running game coordinator Matt Limegrover, who Carmody says he has built a close relationship with during the recruiting process. Limegrover has regularly come to watch Carmody play basketball, a show of investment which Carmody said means a lot to him. On Saturday they talked less about the court and more about the gridiron.

"Coach Limegrover talked to me about them being a run-first offense, coming from a wing-T offense where all we do is run, I think I’ll fit right in," Carmody said.

Carmody, who has interest from at least 17 other schools, including six from the Big Ten, said he has no upcoming visits planned and isn't sure when he'll commit. But whether it's on a snowy Beaver Stadium field or in the Morgan Academic Center, the Mars, Pa., native said Penn State is somewhere he can see himself.

"Not that I have a list, but I think very highly of the school, the football program, and the coaching staff," Carmody said. "It’s a school I will be visiting more and more... [James Franklin] makes it really hard to say no to him honestly, all his points just speak to me and my family."
