Pair of former Nittany Lions named to NFL All-Rookie team

The Pro Football Writers of America released their 2023 All-Rookie team on Tuesday and a pair of former Penn State Nittany Lions were named to the 2023 All-Rookie team defense.

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr (Pittsburgh Steelers) and safety Ji'Ayir Brown (San Francisco 49ers) earned the honors.

Porter Jr., the No. 32 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft allowed just one touchdown this season while also recording one interception and six pass deflections. Opposing quarterbacks had a passer rating of 65.9 according to Pro Football Focus.

Brown, a third-round pick last spring for San Francisco was one of the top rookie safeties in the NFL this season, playing in 13 games, totaling 35 tackles, four pass deflections, and two interceptions. Prior to suffering an injury late in the season, Brown has recorded five tackles or more in four straight games.
