Of the three – also including Micah Parsons (2018) and Damion Barber, both of Harrisburg – Matos is currently the highest rated. (Micah and the Class of 2018 has yet to be rated by Rivals.)

Given four stars by Rivals.com, Matos is considered the ninth-best prospect in Virginia's Class of 2017 and the No. 8 strongside defensive end in the country.

In addition to Penn State, Matos also held scholarship offers from Califorina, Clemson, Duke, Marshall, Maryland, UNC, NC State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

Matos had recently narrowed his list of offers down to three favorites, naming the Tar Heels, Hokies and Nittany Lions. The Volunteers, who became Matos' most recent offer, was also being considered. After a visit to State College Saturday for Junior Day, however, it was PSU who won out.

"To be honest, I pretty much like everything about Penn State," he told Rivals' Adam Friedman Feb 17. "The whole place just feels kind of perfect. I like the way they play, the fans, the coaches, and the campus life."

Stay tuned to Blue White Illustrated for continuing coverage of Penn State's three newest verbal commitments.
