Elite 2022 QB Knows When He'll Return to Penn State

Penn State may still be searching for its quarterback in the Class of 2021, but when it comes to next year’s class, it’s already clear that Delaware resident Braden Davis sits near the top of the staff's recruiting board.

Last summer, Davis camped with James Franklin and his staff, attending the Underclassmen Combine at the end of July. What followed was arguably the best quarterback workout we saw at any Penn State camp. No one in attendance that day was surprised when Davis confirmed he earned a scholarship offer later that evening.

During the season, Davis returned to Penn State in October for the game against Purdue. Now, following a change at offensive coordinator this off-season, he’s getting to know new OC Kirk Ciarrocca.

“I do call Coach Ciarroca to check in and see how things are going at Penn State,” Davis said. “I try to stay in contact with him about once a month. I think that Coach Ciarrocca is definitely a great coach and has produced many great quarterbacks wherever he has been.”

For now, Davis has to initiate all conversations, as coaches won’t be able to contact him until Sept. 1. He's also doing his best to visit as many schools as possible. Before the February dead period began, he and his father travelled to Texas A&M to meet with Jimbo Fisher and his staff.

Today, he's beginning a southern tour of schools, visiting Georgia. He'll then drive up to Clemson for a two-day visit, March 6-7, before heading back to Atlanta to visit Georgia Tech on Sunday, March 8. Before heading home, they'll also go to LSU next Tuesday, March 10.

Davis is also planning to see Florida, March 20, and Florida State a few days later, March 24. So, when might he return to Penn State?

"I just found out that I will be going to Penn State on either March 30th or April 1st," Davis said.

In addition to seeing a spring practice, there were a things that Davis wanted to do on this upcoming visit.

“I haven’t had a chance to tour around the campus," he said. "I would also like to meet with academic advisors and find out what Penn State has to offer for my education. It will definitely be cool to see what changes they have made with their facilities since the last time I was there, as they were about to renovate things. I would also love to meet with Coach Ciarrocca and get an understanding for his football philosophy.”

The Class of 2022 hasn't been ranked yet, but Davis is expected to be a member of the Rivals250, potentially even a Rivals100 prospect. He currently claims 13 scholarship offers. Alabama, Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and West Virginia are a few other schools not previously mentioned.
