WHAT HE DID: Humphries set a district record with 15 career interceptions. He corralled seven alone during his senior year to shatter the 76-year-old mark by five and also helped lead one of the best teams in Sachse High School history. Humphries helped Sachse to a 12-1 record in 2017 before losing in the third round of the UIL State Championships, its furthest playoff run in school history. It previously had never made it out of the second round. He also combined for 113 tackles over his final two seasons. Humphries will be an early enrollee at Penn State. He'll begin taking classes once the spring semester begins next month.

WHAT HE WON: As a senior Humphries was named to the District 10-6A first team and its defensive MVP, according to the Dallas Morning News. He also earned first-team academic all-state honors. Rivals considers Humphries a three-star prospect and the No. 73 overall in the state of Texas. At safety, he’s ranked No. 41 overall.

WHERE HE VISITED: Humphries visited places far, like Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Stanford, UCLA and USC, and he visited closer, like Oklahoma, LSU, TCU and Texas A&M, but he knew from his first to Penn State as a sophomore for the Blue-White game that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a Nittany Lion.

QUOTABLE: “I went other places and they didn’t look like Penn State. Everywhere I went, it was nice, but it’s not Penn State. I was sold from that point on. It helped a lot though because I went to places and compared to it to Penn State and then checked it off the list.”

PHIL’S TAKE: Just like his father, former Penn State cornerback Leonard Humphries, who lettered 1989-1991, Isaiah has a nose for the football. He mainly played two-deep zone coverage his junior and senior season, but is fully capable of playing man-to-man coverage. Humphries is excellent in run support and has exceptional tackling technique. If he can add 15 to 20 pounds to his frame, I believe Humphries could compete for the starting free safety position by his sophomore season. A smart defender who rarely makes a mental mistakes, Humphries is also also exceptional in the classroom, earning a 4.15 GPA.
