Sources: Newsome intends to transfer

Multiple sources close to the Nittany Lions have indicated to Blue White Illustrated that sophomore quarterback Kevin Newsome intends to seek a transfer.
Serving as Daryll Clark's primary backup throughout the 2009 season, Newsome was considered a leading candidate to take over the starting role this year.
After an open quarterback competition with redshirt sophomore Matt McGloin and true freshmen Rob Bolden and Paul Jones, Bolden was ultimately named the starter in preseason camp in August.
Both Newsome and McGloin took reps as Bolden's backup through the first half of the season, but suffering through lingering shoulder and knee injuries, Newsome watched as McGloin took control of the backup position, and ultimately the starting job.
It remains to be seen at this time whether he has discussed his intentions with the Penn State coaching staff, or what his future plans will be.
In the past, players considering a transfer have sometimes been dissuaded from departing by the coaching staff, so the possibility for a change of heart does still exist.
That said, if Newsome follows through with his intention for a transfer, he will become the second Penn State quarterback to transfer out of the program in the past three seasons, following in Pat Devlin's footsteps from the 2008 season.
Blue White Illustrated will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds.
