Penn State Hockey players design their own jerseys
Everyone knows what happens when you give a mouse a cookie.. but what happens when you ask a hockey player to design their own "Wear White" jersey?
Last year, the team released new jerseys specifically for their "Wear White" game, which they are doing again this week. The jerseys were auctioned after the game to raise money for the State College Coyotes sled hockey team. Junior Dylan Lugris' started an annual sled hockey game with the Coyotes, entirely run by the Penn State Men's Hockey team, which will take place on the morning of February 3rd.
Some of their ideas were more unique, while others may look like classic jersey designs in professional and college sports.
Starting off strong? Freshman Matt DiMarsico had a unique take on a jersey that may not look much like a jersey at all but perhaps the outside of a pop-tart box...His diagonal PSU across the front is a classic though.
Next up, junior Ryan Kirwan decided to create a football-like design with a bottom stripe for a hockey jersey. While his was simple, he did add the intricate Penn State logo which it is safe to say he did a good ob on, though he did have to look at his hat to see what it looked like,
Captain Christian Berger had a similar idea going off of the classic Penn State football jersey with one elbow stripe for something on the sleeve. His very classic design lacked the creative nature of some of the others, but who knows, maybe that is for the best. He also received some criticism from his teammates for using his own number.
Sophomore Jarod Crespo arguably had one of the most detailed designs, which looks a bit like a New York Rangers fan, but noted that he is definitely NOT a Rangers fan... that claim is debatable.
I felt like it would not be fair to make these four guys design a jersey, who, except for maybe Crespo, should probably not look into a career involving art at any point in their near future, without adding my own possible design, which is probably equally as bad as some of the others.
Do not be afraid; none of these jerseys will be worn this Saturday evening against Ohio State. But just like last year, the "Wear White" jerseys that will be worn on Saturday will be auctioned off to raise money for the State College Coyotes sled hockey team.
