Penn State Football Recruiting: Lions Offer Kicker Sander Sahaydak

Penn State football offered one of the nation's top specialist in Bethlehem resident Sander Sahaydak Saturday.

James Franklin and the Penn State football program extended a scholarship offer to Bethlehem (Pa.) Liberty kicker Sander Sahaydak.

Listed at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, Sahaydak is not only one of the top specialists in the state, but he's recognized as one of the top kickers in the entire country for the Class of 2021. Kohl's Kicking currently ranks Sahaydak No. 1 in the nation, while Army and Rutgers have also extended scholarship offers.

After camping with Penn State last summer, Sahaydak and his family returned for a junior day on Feb. 1. The visit left a strong impression on Sahaydak, and I've since logged a FutureCast for the Nittany Lions.

"As a kid growing up in PA, it goes without saying that the support and fan base for Penn State football is huge," Sahaydak said. "When I visited earlier this year I was impressed with the campus, coaching staff and facilities, as well as the focus on both academics and athletics. I was hoping to get back on campus for a practice or the Blue-White Game, but unfortunately the Covid-19 pandemic prevented those planned visits."

An All-Eastern PA selection in 2019, Sahaydak converted 10 of 12 field goals with a long of 53 yards. He also made 21 of 22 extra points and had 34 of his 45 kickoffs go for touchbacks.

Sahaydak is the first specialist to earn a scholarship from Penn State in this class and is believed to be the staff's top kicking prospect. The Nittany Lions added one of the nation's top punters in the last class when Virginia native Levi Forrest accepted a preferred walk-on offer. Forrest passed up scholarship offers from Arkansas State and Marshall.

The Nittany Lions currently have two scholarship specialists in Jordan Stout and Jake Pinegar. Both players have two years of eligibility remaining.
