Erie, Pa., four-star offensive lineman Juice Scruggs announced Sunday evening that his recruitment is nearing its end point.

A 6-foot-3, 270 pound interior offensive lineman, Scruggs earned more than a dozen scholarship offers over the past year, including such programs as LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Pitt and Syracuse. However, Penn State and Ohio State have been at the top of his list throughout the spring and summer, and now he’s planning to make his decision public later this week, Aug. 4.

“It’s between Ohio State and Penn State,” Scruggs said. “I talk to both schools everyday. I talk to both head coaches consistently. I like that both schools are powerhouses in not just the Big 10, but the entire country. They both have shown a lot of love towards my family and I.”

Scruggs has been quiet this summer, but he took unofficial visits to Columbus and State College back in the spring. Both schools have consistently made Scruggs a priority since they could initiate conversations with him last September, and that’s held true throughout 2017.

“I talk to Coach Franklin at Penn State the most,” said Scruggs. “He’s been telling me that I am a top priority for the Class of 2018 and I also have a strong relationship with Coach Morehead and Coach Limegrover.

“At Ohio State, I mainly talk to Coach Meyer. We talk about how important I would be to their offensive line. I have a strong relationship with Coach Meyer because we come from the same hometown, Ashtabula. Also, Coach Studrawa is one of the coolest coaches I have ever met.”

Scruggs is planning to announce his commitment at a pool party Friday afternoon, but if the weather doesn’t cooperate, he noted that it could get pushed back a few days. In addition to his four-star rating, Scruggs is currently ranked No. 17 nationwide at offensive guard and 11th overall in Pennsylvania for the Class of 2018.
